Is Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Really Dead?

Year after year, you will hear stories circulating on the web about how SEO is finally dying, and that this is the year when the last nail on its coffin is about to be hammered in. Well, guess what? While every year, you will hear people saying that SEO is no longer relevant to websites and you won’t see the effects of any optimization efforts on your site after the next algorithm update, apparently, naysayers are wrong.

When you ask the question, “Is SEO really dead?” you will find different people giving you different answers. For some, they believe that it is indeed dead, but for others it is not. For others, it just became more difficult and somewhat frustrating to do. So, to answer that question, NO, SEO is NOT dead. It just changed its face, and is constantly evolving to keep up with the changes that search engines make with how SERPs determine relevance.

If you search the web, you will find numerous sites telling you that SEO is truly dead this year, and that any efforts you make to create an optimized website will only be in vain. This statement recurs year after year. If you are someone who actually does SEO, and know just how quickly the landscape of search changes annually, you will find that it is not really dead, just more difficult to adjust to. For you to be able to keep up with these changes, you need to be open to a lot of things.

You need to be able to adjust quickly to the changes search engines make, know what keywords people end up using lately for what they need, and readjust strategies according to what seems to be relevant to these browsers. Being able to adjust your strategies quickly and effectively will help your websites immensely since these depend on you to make them visible to the people who need them. And with all the competition on the web, optimization is still your best bet for getting up there when it comes to search engine results pages.

So, how do you optimize your websites these days to make them relevant to the ever changing algorithms of search engines? You basically have to consistently deliver quality pages for your audience to find and to use. In order to do this, you need to provide them with high quality content that is totally relevant to what they are searching for. When you are consistent with your content, and you give people a valuable resource that your competitors cannot keep up with, whether you are in the number one spot or in the tenth, visitors will look for you and recommend you to friends because of what you bring to them.

You also need to stay on top of your social media engagements, and keep people informed of whatever your company is doing. You may think that what you post on your Facebook page is not being noticed, but what you may not be aware of is that, what you post today may be that one thing a person on the social media network is actually looking for.
